Hummingbirds are fascinating characters in nature. Small, colorful and fast. Their wings move so fast they create the humming sound that is distinct. Allen has specialized certification which allows him to band thousands of hummingbirds, and has done so every year since 2000. When do they arrive in Michigan and when do they leave? How do you band them? How long do they live? What does it mean when they fly in a u shaped pattern by the feeder? It might not be what you think!! If you have seen hummingbirds and watched them fly and eat, you will become fascinated with them and likely begin trying to attract them. Meantime, listen to one of the smartest guys in the state of Michigan on the subject of hummingbirds on this weekend's edition of the Mid Michigan Pet Expert Talk Show - 1320 WILS on the radio

what impact does environment and social development have on making a puppy or dog into a great pet with Doctor Candace Croney, PhD at Purdue University.

September 8th, 2025 12:00am
Last week we talked about breeders vetting their dogs prior to breeding with tests to reduce genetic problems within the breed stock. But what impact does environment and social development have on making a puppy or dog into a great pet? Listen Saturday at 9AM as Doctor Will Schultz, DVM (retired) and Lee Cohen discuss this important issue with Doctor Candace Croney, PhD at Purdue University. Doctor Croney created the standards of care in 2013 and is director of Canine Care Certified which is administered by Purdue University. This program establishes extensive, science-based standards for breeders to ensure a higher, documented quality of care for dogs and puppies. Find out why breeder groups and organizations in many states are imitating elements of this Indiana program and are seeing similar patterns in the improvement of health and behaviors with the increased standards. It is also why the cost of purebred dogs have increased due to the additional costs that go into this care. When you divide a dogs expected life by what you pay to acquire them, makes sense to more and more people who want healthy, well-behaved and socialized pets! You will likely enjoy and appreciate this conversation if you tune in for this weekend's edition of the Mid Michigan Pet Expert Talk Show
