September 26th, 2023 12:00am
You might never have guessed, but fish were not the first love of Rick Preuss when he was a youngster. His first pet love was his Guinea Pigs. Listen Saturday at 9AM as Rick Preuss from Preuss Pets and Lee Cohen discuss his getting his first Cavy when he was eight and the passion he developed for these animals. You'll hear about the types of Guinea Pigs he had and how the number of them grew close to thirty by the time his mom opened her first pet store in Lansing. Then Sean Murphy joins in to discuss the feeding, environment, husbandry and other considerations it takes to care for a Guinea Pig and how to keep them out of trouble (keep the boys apart!) Then Rick talks about the breeding of these animals and the things to consider before you even consider breeding them or even getting them as pets. It's an informative discussion on this weekend's edition of the Mid Michigan Pet Expert Talk Show on 1320 AM WILS on the radio

September 15th, 2023 12:00am
If your boss at work told you about a problem and then said you should solve it, and make it spectacular!! What would you do? For Howard Tanner, who turned 100 years old this week, he introduced a radical solution which saved the Great Lakes and built a multi billion dollar industry. Who is he, you ask? You'll also hear about Salmon in the Classroom with more to come on that subject soon on this weekend's edition of the Mid Michigan Pet Expert Talk Show on 1320 AM WILS on the radio.

Post storm safety conversation for pets

September 7th, 2023 12:00am
Mid Michigan had a tornado touch down that knocked electricity out in tens of thousands of homes for days (or more) and damaged people's homes. What can you do to protect your pets when the power is out and you need to rehome your animals temporarily until repairs are made? Listen Saturday at 9AM when Rick Preuss from Preuss Pets, Doctor Will Schultz, DVM and Lee Cohen discuss how to care for many different types of animals. Rick will answer questions about aquariums and how to keep your fish breathing and alive. He even points out a 25 device that can save your whole tank of fish when your power is out for an extended period of time. Then Sean Murphy from Preuss Pets joins the conversation answering questions about reptiles and small animals that are impacted by temperature changes. Sean will share suggestions of ways to deal with excessive heat or excessive cold and how to balance them to preserve a healthy range of temperature. Finally Doctor Schultz will discuss the impacts on cats and dogs and things you can do to help them. One of which is to keep them indoors since power lines are down. The weather dictated the topic on the Labor Day weekend edition of the Mid Michigan Pet Expert Talk Show on 1320 AM WILS on the radio
