Two Defendants Bound Over in Lansing Double Murder Case

An Ingham County judge has ruled that enough evidence was presented for two people accused in the killings of two Lansing men to proceed to trial.

Forty-five-year-old Timothy Galbraith and 49-year-old Trisha Bos are facing charges in connection with the shooting deaths of 38-year-old Lance Pollo and 28-year-old Raequan Brown.

The two victims were killed on the same day in early 2025, but at different locations and times on Lansing’s east side. Their bodies were later discovered in Eaton County.

MSU Research Spending Nears $1 Billion Goal

Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz delivered his annual State of the University address Tuesday at the Wharton Center.

Guskiewicz highlighted faster-than-expected growth in the university’s research activity. He said MSU is on track to reach its goal of $1 billion in annual research expenditures three years earlier than originally targeted.

The announcement comes as universities face continued uncertainty surrounding regulations and research funding.

East Lansing Schools Superintendent Announces Retirement

East Lansing Public Schools Superintendent Dori Leyko has announced plans to retire next August.

Leyko informed the Board of Education that she intends to remain through the completion of the current school year before stepping down.

No specific reason for her retirement was announced.

Lansing Promise Expands College Partnership

The Lansing Promise is expanding college opportunities for eligible Lansing School District students through a new partnership with Central Michigan University.

The partnership will allow qualifying students to pursue a bachelor’s degree at Central Michigan through the Lansing Promise Scholarship Program.

The program also has partnerships with Michigan State University, the University of Olivet and Saginaw Valley State University.

Former Jackson County Sheriff’s Officer Headed to Trial

A former Jackson County Sheriff’s Office officer is headed to trial after being accused of sexually assaulting three females, including one who was under the age of 13.

Twenty-seven-year-old Tyler Strawser faces criminal sexual conduct charges and could receive a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted.

Strawser is currently free on a $250,000 bond.

University of Michigan Pauses First-Year Grade Pilot Program

The University of Michigan has paused a pilot program that would have covered grades for first-year students in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.

School leaders are requesting additional time for input and discussion following public pushback over the proposal.

Detroit Residents Question Renaissance Center Redevelopment Plan

Public opposition was also raised Tuesday in Detroit over a proposed redevelopment involving General Motors and Bedrock.

The companies are proposing to demolish two towers of the Renaissance Center as part of a $2.2 billion redevelopment project.

The proposal is seeking a $300 million transformational brownfield incentive as part of a broader $548 million request for public subsidies.

Some Detroit residents have raised questions about the affordability and public cost of the project.

DNR, Coast Guard Rescue Father and Son on Lake St. Clair

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard rescued a father and son who became stranded on Lake St. Clair over the weekend.

Officials say the family members fell into the water before being rescued. The father received treatment for hypothermia.

Their current conditions were not immediately available.
