Three juveniles arrested after East Lansing officer assaulted with bear spray

Three juveniles are in custody following an incident in downtown East Lansing in which police say an officer was assaulted with bear spray.

According to East Lansing police, the officer was on foot patrol early Sunday morning when bear spray was discharged from a passenger in a passing vehicle.

The city is also reminding residents about its curfew ordinance, which prohibits anyone under 18 from being in certain public places between midnight and 6 a.m.

Lansing-area road closures begin this week

Drivers in Lansing should prepare for several road closures beginning this week.

Capitol Avenue between Cesar Chavez Avenue and Kilborn Street is scheduled to close Wednesday for sewer construction. The closure is expected to remain in place through November 13.

Beginning Thursday, Kalamazoo Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Mifflin Avenue will close for road construction. That closure is scheduled to continue through November 20.

Delhi Township park upgrades to be unveiled

Officials in Delhi Township are scheduled to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to celebrate improvements at Centennial Farms Park.

The park, located at Aurelius Road and Garden Gate Drive, is receiving new playground equipment, including climbing structures and slides.

MSU receives $4.6 million grant to study medication effectiveness in women

Michigan State University is participating in a nationwide collaboration examining how hormonal changes in women can affect the effectiveness of medications.

MSU has received a $4.6 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for the research.

According to the university, clinical trials have often failed to account for hormonal changes women experience throughout their lives, including changes associated with menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause, as well as medications that affect hormone levels.

Researchers say the lack of consideration for those changes could contribute to medications being less effective and could result in more severe side effects for women than for men.

Nessel praises Supreme Court decision on voting and mail

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is applauding a U.S. Supreme Court decision rejecting restrictions sought by the Trump administration involving mail and voting.

In a statement, Nessel said the court "did right by the American people" and characterized the president's efforts as a "failed power grab."

The administration had sought to have states provide the U.S. Postal Service with basic voter information that would have been attached to a unique barcode.

Abbott agrees to pay more than $384 million over manufacturing violations

Health care company Abbott has agreed to pay more than $384 million after being accused of violating federal manufacturing requirements at facilities in Michigan and Arizona.

Federal prosecutors say the Illinois-based company, which manufactures and sells infant formula, committed the violations at its plant in Sturgis, Michigan, as well as at a facility in Arizona.

Ford recalls more than 223,000 vehicles

Dearborn-based Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 223,000 vehicles in the United States because of concerns involving fuel tanks.

Federal officials say certain fuel tanks may be leaky or improperly secured and could detach from a vehicle while it is being operated.

The recall affects certain Ford F-150 pickup trucks from model years 2023 through 2027.
