LG Energy Plant Holds Ribbon-Cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled today at the new LG Energy plant in Delta Township, marking the opening of a major manufacturing facility expected to bring at least 1,500 jobs to the region.

The roughly $2.5 billion, 2.8-million-square-foot facility initially began as an Ultium Cells joint venture involving LG Energy Solution and General Motors. GM later sold its stake, and LG subsequently secured a $4.3 billion agreement with Tesla to produce energy storage cells at the plant.

Mason Renews Data Center Discussions

Data center development is again a topic of discussion in Mason following action by the city council Monday night.

The council approved a new community outreach plan called Mason Connect, designed to provide residents with information about potential data center developments. The plan includes a series of neighborhood meetings and a town hall scheduled for September 14.

MSU Student Killed in Virginia Crash

An MSU student and club hockey player was killed in a traffic crash over the weekend in Virginia.

Virginia State Police said Preston Korytkowski of Rockford, Michigan, was driving a vehicle that struck a disabled semi-truck parked on the shoulder of I-95 in Caroline County. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.

Ingham County Crash Injures 80-Year-Old Woman

An 80-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash Monday in Ingham County.

Sheriff's officials said the woman crashed into a tree near Aurelius and Plains roads, close to the border of Aurelius and Onondaga townships. The vehicle caught fire following the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

Meridian Township Warns of AI-Generated Tax Scam

Meridian Township officials are warning residents about an AI-generated tax scam circulating on social media and YouTube.

Officials say false information claims the IRS has created a new Form 1098-SR that would allow senior homeowners to cap or lock their property taxes. While the IRS does have a Form 1098, officials say it is not related to property taxes, and there is no federal law or IRS program that allows seniors to cap or lock their property taxes.

Federal Court Rejects DOJ Rehearing Request

A federal appeals court has denied a request from the U.S. Justice Department for a rehearing in a case involving Michigan's full electronic voter list, which includes personal information.

The Justice Department had sought the information as part of an effort to determine whether Michigan was complying with federal election law.

More Mid-Michigan Students Head Back to School

The new school year continues to get underway across Mid-Michigan.

Students in the Ovid-Elsie School District returned to class Tuesday. Four Mid-Michigan districts began their school year Monday, while six additional districts are scheduled to reopen their doors Wednesday.
